METHANOL provides high accuracy thermodynamic and transport properties for methanol (CH3OH, Molar mass = 32.042 g/mole) using the Fundamental Equation of State developed by Reiner Tillner-Roth, "Fundamental Equations of State", Shaker, Verlag, Aachan, 1998.

The data upon which this correlation is based are from:

de Reuck, K.M. and Craven, R.J.B.,

"Methanol, International Thermodynamic Tables of the Fluid State - 12,"

IUPAC, Blackwell Scientific Publications, London, 1993.

Reference State

The default reference state corresponds to the Ideal gas condition at 273.15 K, 101.3 kPa;   h=0.0 kJ/kg  s=0.0 kJ/kg-K.  The reference state can be changed using the $Reference directive.

Ancillary equations for vapor pressure and density of saturated liquid and vapor are from the CATS formulation provided by Professor Steve Penoncello, College of Engineering, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho, 83844-1011

Range of applicability for equation of state:

   175.61 K < T <  570 K

0 < P < 800 MPa

Transport Properties

Viscosity for liquid methanol is determined using data from "Measurements of the Viscosity of Alcohols in the Temperature range 290-350 K at Pressures up to 30 MPa", Assael, M.J. and Polimatidou, S.K.,  Int. J. of Thermophysics, Vol. 15, No. 1, 1994.

Viscosity for gaseous methanol is based on the correlation provided by Yaws, Carl L., ed. Chemical Properties Handbook. New York: McGraw-Hill, 1999.

Conductivity for low pressure gaseous methanol is based on data from:

Vargaftik, N.B., Filippov, L.P, Tarzimanov, A.A., and Totskii, E.E.,

Handbook of Thermal Conductivity of Liquids and Gases

CRC Press, 1994, ISBN 0-8493-9345-0

Conductivity for liquid methanol at atmospheric pressure was fit to limited data provided in "Absolute Measurements of the Thermal Conductivity of Alcohols by the Transient Hot-Wire Technique", Assael, M.J., Charitidou, E., and Nieto de Castro, C.A., Int. J. of Thermophysics, Vol. 9, No. 5, 1988.

Surface tension data are provided through a correlation developed by:

G.R. Somayajulu

"A Generalized Equation for Surface Tension from the Triple Point to the Critical Point"

International Journal of Thermophysics, Vol. 9, No. 4, 1988
